Lyons Gray Joins Board of Goler Community Development Corporation

Lyons Gray, former president of the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership, has joined the board of directors of Goler Community Development Corporation as chairman of its Infrastructure Finance Committee.

“Lyons brings us tremendous experience, energy and a passion for making good things happen in Winston-Salem,” said Board Chairman Michael Suggs. “I am delighted that he has agreed to serve at this pivotal time to help us build the future of our historic downtown community.”

In July, Goler Community Development Corporation announced an $18 million plan to convert the former Brown & Williamson building at the edge of the Arts District into 64 loft condominiums to be known as The Gallery. The lofts will be across from Goler Manor, 79 one-bedroom apartments being built for seniors with an $8.8 million federal housing award. Both initiatives are part of Goler’s master plan for an urban neighborhood on 12 acres between the Arts District and Piedmont Triad Research Park.

“This is a great opportunity to continue my work in downtown redevelopment,” Gray said. “With its mix of condos and row homes, shops and offices, professionals and retirees, The Heights will be a vibrant part of 21st century life in Winston-Salem.”

In addition to his new seat on Goler’s board, Gray’s other civic roles include vice chairmanship of the Piedmont Triad Partnership and chairmanship of the Environmental Financial Advisory Board of the Environmental Protection Agency. He is also a former seven-term member of the North Carolina House of Representatives.
